May 2024 Update

Well, folks, here's a little update on me and my running.

I've been hesitant to talk too much about my running because I had a medial tibial stress fracture back in November (2023) and wanted to make sure I was healthy. And I think I am... Fingers crossed. I'm up to running about 55 miles per week with 3-5 days of biking as well, on top of all the physical therapy I'm doing for my leg. So it's a decent training load right now, but I'll eventually get to running a little bit more in the coming weeks.

I had two great workouts this week already:

On Tuesday, I did 4x1 mile reps, and on Thursday, I was on the track for 3x1k and some zippy 200s.

For the first time in my running career, I have a bunch of races on the calendar that I am not that fit for! So that's new and exciting. I'm going to be racing my way into fitness, but I'm taking my time with training so I don't flare anything up again.

First up, I'm running the Bolder Boulder 10k, a super iconic race here in Colorado. It's hilly and at altitude, so times aren't as important, but I'm told there's a free T-shirt if you break 40 minutes (6:25 per mile), so that's my first goal!

A bunch of my training partners and friends from The Track Club are doing it as well, so it'll be cool to have familiar faces out there with me.

My next three confirmed races are the Garden to Peak Challenge here in Colorado Springs, CO.

Garden to Peak Challenge

The Challenge starts off with the rolling Garden of the Gods 10-Mile Run on June 9, 2024.

Then, The Barr Trail Mountain Race, set for July 21, 2024.

And finally, The Pikes Peak Ascent or Pikes Peak Marathon, taking place September 21 and 22, 2024. (I'm probably doing the full marathon there, TBD).

If you didn't know, Sundog Running and I are the official coaching partners for the Pikes Peak Marathon, so I'm coaching several runners to run one or all of the races in the Challenge. It's been fun helping everyone get ready for these races, and it has inspired me to make sure I'm ready to roll on the day as well!

I have a bunch of other ideas and races in the works, just waiting to iron out the details, but a couple of plans that I am incredibly excited about, so I hope they work out!
